Overpriced, mediocre quality

If I had money to burn on a fun gimmick, this wouldn’t be it. First of all, this machine is expensive. Second, the flavors are limited. On top of that, the quality isn’t great. It tastes gummy and too sweet. Furthermore, the machine has only one small beaker into which you pour the gelato base. There is one small paddle that mixes/aerates the base while the machine cools it. The instructions recommend chilling the gelato base first. If it’s room temperature, you’ll have to run it at least twice. After the mixture has been prepared, you have to scrape it out of the tiny beaker and off the paddle. (I had seen a commercial version of a similar machine that at least dispensed it à la soft serve.) I think for the cost and the effort, i’d prefer a standard ice cream maker with the built in freezer and make my own base.

Overhype and extremely costly and disappointing

Overhyped product. Was connected to try this item as I thought it would be great for the family. The concept seems great but the quality of the product is awful. First of all their iOS app does. It work. Issues pairing up to unit to scan product. We were able to use it manually to get it to work but realized that you only get a small portion. You need 2 boxes $14 per serving to satisfy anyone’s appetite. We made 3 different flavors (custard, chocolate, strawberry. Something seemed off with the flavors. Seems to have aftertaste and kind of pudding like. Not like the gelato we had in Italy that we were expecting. I think we will be going to our local gelato store and not have to deal with this unit and get better quality gelato and much more reasonable cost Will be packing up and taking back to store

Overpriced gadget

I just used this machine tonight. The kids were so excited to see it and try it out, but the cons outweighed the pros for us. Pros - simple to use, cool factor, instant gratification-ish, great texture Cons - expensive, limited flavors, gummy taste, finished product is mixed into the single beaker that is provided, base needs to be chilled We tried the chocolate and the cappuccino flavored gelato. The ingredients are few, but they have a thickener that makes the gelato taste gummy. The chocolate ice cream tasted like pudding and both were overly sweet. However, the texture was great. I did not have to use the app, I just filled the beaker and turned it on. Since the base was at room temperature, I had to run it twice to get it to a soft gelato texture. One of the kids left hers out and let it melt, and I just put it back in the machine. I think this machine could be great if you could use your own recipes (haven’t tried it) and had a dispenser.

I would not if i were you

while this gelato maker works, it only makes about 2 tablespoons at a time and then i got my electric bill and it was 200 kw high than normal only using this 5-7 times.  i decided to take it back after I discovered this.  unfortunately I did not pay attention to the return policy and took it to my local store 10 days after the return window.  I was disappoint to find i could not return.  I have always had outstanding customer service from william sonoma.  It makes me rethink my kitchenwares store.  i have always been willing to pay a little more for the knowledge they stand by their products and take care of their customers.  this is no longer the case i guess.  buyer beware!
