    Use & Care

    Care

    • Batch bowl, mixing paddle, and lid must be cleaned and sanitized before initial use and after each use, unless unit is going to be used again within one hour. Failure to do so may allow residue of processed material to collect on internal seals of drive assembly, rendering them ineffective. With repetitive batch-processing, cleaning bowl between batches will prolong life of drive assembly.
    • Use only low-foaming, powdered detergents formulated for cleaning dishware and cooking utensils. These products can be purchased from restaurant and commercial food service suppliers.
    • Lid and mixing paddle are dishwasher safe; hand-wash batch bowl.
    • Use brush to clean inside bottom hole of mixing paddle before placing in dishwasher. Pre-clean stubborn food deposits with brush and presoak in detergent solution if necessary. Rinse well.
    • To sanitize, use regular, unscented bleach diluted with water between 50°F and 120°F. Sanitizing dilutions are based on hypochlorite concentration of bleach. The dilutes for 2 commonly available bleach concentrations are hypochlorite 5.25% – 3 tsp. bleach per gallon of water; hypochlorite 8.25% – 2 tsp. bleach per gallon of water. Wet soft cloth or sponge with bleach dilution listed above and wipe down interior and exterior of lid, bowl and mixing paddle. Place bowl into freezing chamber, install paddle and fill with sanitizing solution to above mixing paddle. Cover with lid to prevent splashing, and run on Mixing Only mode for 2 minutes. Empty bowl. Immerse lid in sanitizing solution and soak for 2 minutes.
    • Do not rinse after sanitizing is completed. Drain sanitizing solution and allow parts to air-dry.
    • Housing and freezing chamber must be cleaned and sanitized before first use, and whenever unit has come into contact with food.
    • Remove vent cover on rear of unit.
    • Wipe down exterior housing and freezing chamber with wet cloth. Remove and clean under vent cover if necessary.
    • Wipe entire exterior housing and freezing chamber with soft cloth or sponge that has been dampened with sanitizing solution (use only sanitizing solutions recommended above) and wrung out to avoid any excess solution running into housing vents in base.
    • Do not immerse housing in washing solution, rinse water or sanitizing solution. Allow to air-dry. Reinstall vent cover on rear of unit.

    I love ice cream!

When I first got my Whynter ICM-255SSY from Williams-Sonoma, I expected a premium appliance—and it has absolutely delivered. From the sleek stainless-steel exterior to the powerful internal compressor, every detail feels thoughtful, well-built, and designed for serious frozen-dessert lovers. What I Love 1. No pre-freezing needed One of the best features is that the bowl doesn’t need to be frozen ahead of time. I just pour in the base, press start, and it begins cooling and churning right away. The built-in compressor takes care of it all seamlessly. 2. Creamy, custom results The ice cream, gelato, sorbet—it’s all beautifully textured. The machine gives you control over firmness, and the extended cooling function helps maintain consistency even after churning. 3. Generous capacity With 2.6 quarts of capacity, it’s perfect for entertaining or making enough for a family. The stainless bowl and churn blade make it feel robust and high-quality. 4. Intuitive controls & smart safety features The knob + digital interface is easy to use. I also appreciate the motor protection function—if the mix gets too stiff, the motor pauses to prevent damage. 5. Easy cleanup The removable bowl and components simplify clean-up. No awkward corners or hard-to-reach spots. Minor Quibbles (That Don’t Overshadow the Upside) • Because of its built-in compressor and solid metal construction, it has some heft. It’s not something I’d want to carry around often—though that’s true of most high-end compressor machines. • Occasionally after several back-to-back batches, the machine needs a short rest (though it hasn’t been a serious issue for me). ⸻ Bottom line: If you’re serious about homemade frozen desserts and want a machine that’s reliable, hands-free, and capable of delivering professional-level texture, the Whynter ICM-255SSY is a stellar choice. I’m thrilled with my purchase—thanks, Williams-Sonoma, for bringing it into my kitchen!

    Time will tell

The unit was well packed in double boxes but even so it still had some dent damage. Fortunately it's the back of the machine and I will not be displaying it on a counter top. Included instructions seem to be universal for all machines offered by this company. For example the vent panels are not removable for cleaning as the instructions indicated. The separate recipe book is probably for a 1.5 quart or less model and you will have to adjust ingredients volumes to even get close to the fill line. Poorly written instructions should be condensed from 10 pages down to 3 or 4 max. Some stuff is repeated up to 3 times in different sections. I've used the machine three times now. First try ran it long and the ice cream was just air. Was not a good taste. The next two batches came out great as I ran the unit for 25 minutes instead of the default 60 minutes. Weird thing to note and I'm not sure if it was user error or the circuit board had a glitch, but first two batches the unit did a count down timer. The last batch the timer started at zero and counted up. Paused the unit, per the instructions, and used the dial knob to adjust the timer. Unfortunately the timer value went up no matter if I turned the knob left or right. After messing around with the dial it started working correctly allowing me to reduce the timer (counterclockwise) and increase (clockwise) it as I wanted to. Seems like a problem ... I'll know more as I continue to use it. I purchased the ICM-255SSY because of the stainless steel bowl and paddle combo which is very hard to find. Supposedly safer than the plastic, non-stainless units. It was easy to clean.

    Great Ice cream maker

Super convenient and intuitive to use. Made a couple of different types of ice cream so far (custard-based and Philadelphia-style), and both turned out great!

    Exceeded expectations

Bought this as a birthday gift for my husband and he made ice cream for the family that evening. It was quick and simple. Within 60 minutes we had ice cream, simple and easy. Easy to clean up and it’s ready to make more. Can’t wait for a summer of cold ice cream.

    Great ice cream maker

Great product, makes quality ice cream in one hour. And I can finally make ice cream sugar-free and diary-free, use fresh fruits and try different recipes I find online. I have been trying to minimize plastic in my food and this appliance comes with stainless steel blade and tub so that’s another box checked. Capacity is 2.6 so this is plenty for a family of four to enjoy. I also like that is keeps the ice cream cold after it is done churning so it will keep the ice cream frozen until you serve.

A Must have for the home!

This ice cream maker has changed how my family does deserts! Makes enough ice cream for 5 of us and within 1 hour. Such an awesome machine. We compared and searched for an ice cream machine and after we read the reviews and more into this product we had to give it a go. So happy we did. Whynter makes a great household product. If you're looking for an ice cream maker this one is a must.

I can't imagine having been more pleased!

I bought this ice cream maker to easily make good sugar free low fat frozen desserts and couldn't be more thrilled with the results! The photo is of chocolate ice milk made with nonfat milk, nonfat dried milk, zero calorie sweetener, and cocoa powder & vanilla for flavor along with xantham gum for texture/stability. The base recipe for ice milk comes in the recipe booklet for the machine. It has a very creamy (not fatty) texture and tastes fabulous! The machine is very easy to use and I love being able to customize the softness/hardness, the time, and the motor speed. Naturally, it takes less time to get a firmer ice cream when you have chilled your mixture well before adding. But average time for me to get soft serve consistency with a chilled mixture is 30 minutes, and 60 minutes for a firm texture. The stainless steel blade and bowl are going to last a very long time, and the compressor has no trouble keeping up for the longer churn times as well as firmer consistency (and two cycles to keep the ice cream chilled once the machine stops. Bottom line, don't hesitate if you can swing the cost because this machine is worth every penny.
