    Dimensions & More Info

    • 3 1/2" blade, 5" handle.
    • 3.2 oz.
    • Handcrafted in Japan.

    Use & Care

    Use

    • Always use caution when handling sharp objects.
    • Avoid cutting on hard surfaces such as stone, metal or glass.
    • It is not advisable to use any knife but a meat cleaver to cut through bone, as other blades can be easily damaged.

    Care

    • Hand-wash with warm water and a mild detergent; rinse and dry immediately.
    • Avoid cleaners containing bleach or citrus extracts.
    • Sharpen as needed. With regular use and honing once a week, your knife should not need sharpening more than once or twice a year.
    • Sharpen your knife at home using a whetstone or knife sharpener designed to sharpen at a 16-degree angle, or have it sharpened by a professional.
    • Store knife in a safe place to protect its edge and prevent injury.

Love Shun but not this one!

I have many Shun knives and they are of impeccable quality. However, bought this 4 1/2 paring knife and the tang inside the handle extends past the handle creating a very uncomfortable situation when using.

Sharp upon arrival and same high quality as the (2) 10" Kaji knives I purchased which lead me to purchase this paring knife. Obviously recommend purchasing. You get what you pay for or you don't.

Good but quality control is lacking.

This is a beautiful knife. Mostly consistent edge, in regards to sharpness. That I can touch up. My only real complaint here, and that’s due to the price of this product, is the fit and finish. The tang is not flush with the handle. It’s not by much but just enough to feel it when holding the knife. Not what you’d expect from a Shun.

    LOVE THIS KNIFE

I just received my 4 1/2 inch Shun Kaji Paring Knife and had to try it out immediately. It cut through a tomato, an onion, and an orange without a bit of effort on my part. I bought it to match my Kaji Santoku Knife, which I dearly love, and am I glad I did. It is worth every penny and I know I will enjoy many years of use with it. Shun Kaji Knives are the best!!! Each cut is smooth and, as I said, effortless. The knife handle feels wonderful and the knife itself is balanced and not too heavy in my hand, which is old, small, and slightly arthritic.

This is the only one of my knives with broken tip

I buy only the Japanese knives. This one was my best paring knife until the tip broke off with normal use. I purchased it from the catalog on September 14, 2019 and the tip broke in July 11, 2020. With covid pandemic there was no way to contact CEO Laura J. Alber in San Francisco headquarters. Be aware of this problem when considering the purchase.

    Great complementary detail knife

I've owned the 4 1/2 " for the past two years and use it as a regular companion to my Kaji hollow ground 7" santuko. Great for that extra touch in prep work with vegetables.

    Great knife!

We bought this 4 1/2 inch Shun Kanji paring knife based on the outstanding performance of the larger Shun Kanji Chef''s knife we bought several years ago. We use the new knife for chopping and slicing a variety of vegetables, as well as slicing smaller cuts of meat such as chicken breasts and pork tenderloin roasts. We love both of these knives and would highly recommend them to anyone wanting high performance knives that will last for years.
