Poor performance after first dozen uses

Worked well the first few times but now instead of popcorn popping in the column and spilling over, it shoots hot unpopped kernels everywhere. Even with a large bowl in place, i have kernels all over the counter and floor and end up with approximately a third of the kernels unpopped in the bowl. I think the unit heats up too fast or too hot compared to when I used it out of the box. I have followed all instructions, this is not a case of user error…

This R2 unit pops some great popcorn.

Works fine. I did have to repair a loose piece on the front when i first got it. Two screws had come loose on the inside. Once I fished them out I was able to repair R2 so that he could resume his duties popping popcorn.

    Broke after~6 uses

We received this as a gift for Christmas. It only lasted about six uses before the motor died. Unfortunately for us, this happened just after the return window from Williams-Sonoma closed. I tried calling the 800 number to see about a warranty, but all I ever got was a busy signal. This droid unit is going in the scrap heap. I'll echo, too, the comments of the other one-star reviewers. This thing hurls unpopped kernels like a stormtrooper fires their blaster -- it hits everything but the bowl.

    Cuteness 5, function 2

First— R2D2 is adorable. Second—it technically pops corn with hot air. So in that respect, it’s great. However, the design is poor. It doesn’t pop much at a time, which might not be a problem for some, but for a family of 4 movie night, it’s too small. Worse, there are many unpopped kernels left, more than from most poppers. And worst, it goes everywhere! It has a chute to guide the popcorn out when it pops up, but it goes everywhere. It bombs the R2D2 helmet bowl so some of those kernels fly out of the bowl. Good for a giggle and for the dog who has floor cleanup duty, but not really for collecting your popcorn. In addition some of the kernels fly out the side of the chute... it’s not tapered or long enough to actually get them all to the bowl. All in all it’s more frustrating than fun.

Great popcorn! Love the R2D2 theme.

I was hesitant to buy because of the poor reviews I read here but very happy that I got it after all! I will say that there is some popcorn (and unpopped kernels) - just a small handful - that end up outside of the bowl. Not because of the machine itself but because the kernel pops and pushes other popcorn/kernels out of the popper. Doesn't bother me to pick those up as needed. 98% of the popcorn lands in the bowl. My only issue is that it says it has cord management at the back but for the life of me, I can't find it and the instructions are sparse. It's a bit big and I will have to figure out a storage solution that works but since I eat popcorn several times a week, I may never store it!

    So far very pleased.

I truly wonder about all the negative reviews. Did you put the shoot on correctly? It went directly into my bowl. Butter melted just fine. As for any unpopped kernels you need to buy a different brand. Store brands always leave kernels. I had maybe a half dozen unpopped kernels. So far it is doing exactly what I would expect it to do. Very easy to clean.

    Are you serious??

This is the first time I have written a product review. It’s the first time I’ve ever been truly disappointed in a WS product. This popcorn popper is super cute, which is why I bought it for my star wars obsessed wife. But seriously?? Did anyone test this? The popcorn goes everywhere, except in the bowl. We used a larger bowl and it still, comically, popped all over the counter. Very poor design. Also, for the price, could have included some beep beep hoops! Sorry but this will be a dust collector.

    Popcorn Spewing

Had anyone found a way to keep the kernels and the popped xorn from spewing out of R2D2? This is so super-cute and that is the only annoyance I have with the product. What bowl do you use with it?

    What are we doing wrong?!

I bought this popcorn maker for my 5 year olds birthday. He spotted it once when we were in the store & loved it so we decided to get it for him for his birthday. Every time we use it it makes such a mess! Pop & flaming hot kernels come flying out the top of the machine. It’s so bad that my husband & I swear we must be doing something wrong because there is no way this product should make such an unbelievable mess. Please inform me if we are missing something!

    Robot Noises

Was disappointed that robot sounds were not present on this machine
