An exceptionally well-made piece of kitchen equipment. The heating elements are actually inside. Of the cooking plates, which means you have great temperature control, and quick warm-up. They detach and are easily cleaned in the dishwasher when it’s time to clean up. You also can order additional grill plates so that you can have two flat or two ribs depend depending on whether you’re making sandwiches or you opened it up fully to use it as an electric griddle..

Great until it wasn't....

The Smart Grill was a one hit wonder until it wasn't. I loved searing salmon, cooking paninis, pancakes, etc. Ease of being able to put plates into dishwasher was great as well. However..... the biggest frustration is that the grill "errors" out quite often if over 350 degrees in the middle of cooking. It has been an ongoing frustration. The other complaint is that the plates rub off black on your fingers when handling plates after cleaning. This grill is too expensive to have these issues. SOS!

Great grill!

Selected this grill begrudgingly for a long service award but not regretted it since. Great for breakfasts, pancakes, steak and burgers. Easy to use, easy to clean and good functionality. I would like to see a set of waffle plates, similar to the Sear and Press.

Amazingly Useful

When I bought this, I honestly thought I was being a bit silly, but I had a few discounts to use, so I figured why not. I was initially sheepish when asked by my wife how much I spent. After a month of finding amazing ways to use this in our cooking four times a week, we can’t imagine being without it. With the large surface area, we can make four grilled cheese or panini at a time—great with two kids in our house and grandparents visiting. Quesadillas are a breeze. The temperature consistency makes achieving perfection a low effort affair. Cleanup is simple. I do wish it came with another ribbed surface for the price, but I know how to order one from Breville. Along with our air fryer, this has been another huge parenting win. The only con—it’s heavy—think Kitchen Aid mixer. If you leave it in one location or don’t store it up high, you should be fine.

cook super fast and efficient

cook a medium rare steak in 3 minutes, heat transfer is by contact on both surface, not like an oven where heat transfer is by convection and infra-red radiation.

Not so great plates

I bought the Smart Grill. I have cleaned the grill after every use. The plates have something black coming off them after couple of uses. Those black particles I believe is the coating from the plates. Its horrible.

Best kitchen appliance I've ever owned

Best kitchen product I've ever bought. I've had it over 6 years and I use it at least 3 times a week. Best steak maker ever. The timer is very convenient and keeping the plates clean is so easy.

Pleased with the purchase

We have only used the grill a few times but so far we are pleased with the purchase. The grill is easy to use and versatile. It is easy to clean which is a big plus. We have grilled steaks, hamburgers and also vegetables.

Awesome grill

I live where there is always raining during winter that I cant grill outside often. This grill is lifesaver and awesome. Juicy chicken breasts with seared marks and salmon filets too. What more can I say...
