    Summary

Shun knives are produced by Japan’s leading blade manufacturer, reflecting the craftsmanship of a centuries-old tradition of knife making. The nakiri knife (Japanese for “vegetable knife”) features a supersharp hollow-ground blade with indentations that reduce friction and minimize sticking when cutting fresh produce.

    • VG-MAX "super steel" blade is clad on each side with 34 microthin layers of stainless steel, creating a variegated look reminiscent of a Damascus-style blade.
    • Exceedingly sharp cutting edge is long lasting and easy to maintain.
    • Shaped like a cleaver, this Nakiri knife chops, slices and minces fresh fruits and vegetables with ease.
    • Indentations along the blade reduce friction and keep slices from sticking.
    • Durable PakkaWood handle resists moisture and has a D shape, to sit comfortably in the hand.
    • This NSF-certified knife meets the high-level safety standards for professional kitchens.
    • Handcrafted in Japan.
    • A Williams Sonoma exclusive.

    • 5"-long handle.

    Use & Care

    Use

    • Always use caution when handling sharp objects.
    • Avoid cutting on hard surfaces such as stone, metal or glass.
    • It is not advisable to use any knife but a meat cleaver to cut through bone, as other blades can be easily damaged.

    Care

    • Hand-wash with warm water and a mild detergent; rinse and dry immediately.
    • Avoid cleaners containing bleach or citrus extracts.
    • Sharpen as needed. With regular use and honing once a week, you should not need to sharpen your knife more than once or twice a year.
    • Sharpen your knife at home using a whetstone or knife sharpener designed to sharpen at a 16-degree angle, or have it sharpened by a professional.
    • Store knife in a safe place to protect its edge and prevent injury.

    Vwry nice knife...

I have an eclectic assortment of knives German, Japanese, USA. Some favorites that i have had for 40+ years, some relatively new, and a couple that I inherited from others. This nakiri is my first Shun knife. I have used it pretty much daily since purchasing it. It is great addition to my collection. I have primarily used it for prep work (mostly for slicing and dicing veggies). I have not even considered sharpening it yet, as there is absolutely no need. It is as sharp now as when it came out of the box. I used a honing rod a couple of times after i had been a little rough with it, and it restored the edge quickly and easily. I would give it 5 stars except it can get a little slippery. Despite being accustomed to working with extremely sharp knives, I have managed to draw blood (mine) 2 or 3 times with this one. The blade is so sharp, that it will cut you before you even realize what happened. It takes a little getting used to and I wouldn't recommend it for someone not experienced and comfortable with using high end, SHARP knives. In fairness, a friend indicated that Shun has essentially the same knife with a slightly different handle that is a little easier to securely grip. Despite thus, I would definitely recommend this knife.

Beautiful knife. The balance is superb, the blade is so sharp it makes cutting a breeze. It’s amazing what a difference a high quality blade makes when preparing food.

    Paid but never delivered

They sent me the wrong order gift wrapped on Christmas. We didn’t know it was the wrong order until it was opened in Christmas. They sent me an Olive oil spritzer instead of this knife. I called, chatted, and called again and we have sent the return of the Olive oil spritzer but still haven’t gotten the correct order which is the knife. This is absolutely terrible customer service. I paid for a $180 knife for nothing in return ordering here. Do business elsewhere

Product is great. Customer service terrible.

The knife is great, no complaints about the product. The customer service to FINALLY get this knife was an awful experience. We ordered this product in our local store (they were out of stock at the time) off our registry after our wedding in December of 2023, we did not receive the knife until September of 2024. We spent hours on the phone with customer service trying to figure out why it hadn’t been delivered (it was expected to be delivered in January of 2023). We went to the store on multiple occasions to try and solve the situation. Nobody could help us or figure why it hadn’t been delivered until July. Apparently when we originally ordered it in the store somehow we didn’t pay the full amount so we still owed $15. Started an email correspondence with customer service and they sent us an emerchandise card to reimburse us so we could buy it again. Well they sent us multiple of those and they never worked. They tried mailing it to our house and it never came. In September they sent the card to our local store, they received it and after 10 months we were finally able to get our knife. This situation took way too long to resolve. We asked for some kind of compensation in our email correspondence when trying to obtain the knife and never heard back.

    Shun Nakiri

We received a Shun knife for our wedding 12 years ago, it has always been my favorite. I've been wanting to try a Nakiri knife for some time, and I'm so glad I treated myself to this one! It makes quick work of chopping vegetables and is great for just about everything else too!

    Glides through veggies

I’ve never had a knife glide through veggies like this. It’s comfortable in my hand.
