    Summary

Vermont woodworkers craft our cutting board from planks of American walnut, which lends exceptional hardness that protects sharp knives. The wood's outstanding durability ensures years of chopping and slicing, while the edge-grain construction makes the board ideal for serving cheese. The small size features two smooth sides. The medium and large boards each have a perimeter channel on one side that catches juices for use in gravies and sauces.

    • Crafted of sustainably harvested walnut, sourced locally in the United States.
    • Edge-grain construction withstands years of heavy-duty slicing and chopping.
    • Medium and large boards have deep perimeter channel that catches juices.
    • Designed exclusively for Williams Sonoma.
    • Made by the venerable J.K. Adams Co. of Vermont, specialists in finely made wooden kitchenware.

    Not My Fav

I bought this at WS with another cutting board. The other cutting board is much better but cost the same. This one is lighter and darker, but I probably won’t buy this again. The grain is not smooth and appears like dry wood splitting off. We seasoned it and everything according to the care instruction. It’s not my favorite.

    3 strikes!

I ordered this board with personalized initials. It arrived with no personalization. Customer service said they would send me a new board. It arrived and the personalization was wrong. Customer service said they would send out a third board and would make sure that the personalization was checked by quality control for correctness prior to shipping. The third board arrived and the personalization was wrong again! I was very disappointed that they could not make this right.

    Mislabeled and smells awful

This board is mislabeled or they are being deceiving with the type of wood. It arrived saying “maple cutting board”. I sent it back and ordered another walnut thinking it was a mistake. The same thing happened again, it arrived and the label and packaging said “maple cutting board”. The walnut is more expensive than the maple, so that felt deceitful. In addition both boards I received smelled HORRIBLE!!!

    Necessary tool in beautiful walnut

I was gifted the large walnut notch cutting (and carving) board two years ago. It is a beautiful dark brown board that I use on a regular basis. I was surprised by some of the negative reviews regarding splinters. I do not recall what instructions for care and use came with the board, but I will say the board must be well oiled before its first use. I also do not recall if I already had cutting board oil before I received this particular board, but I can assure you I would not have used it without letting oil sit on it for a long time to deeply absorb into the wood. Can't use one without the other. (And I have a set of lint-free rags that I use specifically for this chore.) The oil protects the wood and supports its anti-bacterial properties. Don't hesitate to buy this beautiful kitchen tool. Buy board oil and use it profusely, especially before first use and after any deep cleaning. This is a "medium-maintenance" item.

    Unusual “off”smell

Nice looking wood but it has an awful smell. Washed it several times and it lessened but even after applying Williams Sonoma oil for it the odor persists. Have it outside hoping it will go away

Worst Quality Wood Cutting Board Ever!!

This was my 1st (and last) time buying a cutting board from WS. For the price I paid for this board, I had higher expectations than what I was given. First off, Ive only owned the board for about 2 1/2 weeks and it already looks like its many years old of usage. It feels rough and as if it has splinters. I contacted WS Customer Service and was told I could return it since it shouldn't look so worn after only a couple of weeks. The representative said it may be a defective wood product and to take it to the store. But when I took it to the closest store to me, the manager refused to take it back and told me I was informed wrong by Customer Service and that all it needed was mineral oil. But that regardless, I couldn't return it since it was clearly used. (Well duh, of course its used) She proceeded to show me how to put the oil on and said I should have bought it in the first place. While the oil did make it look better, it didn't fix the splintery feeling the board now has. She said I could sand it and that should solve that. Honestly, for such an expensive board, I shouldn't have to sand it and basically make it look like new and usable when its not even a month old. I am extremely disappointed for purchasing this poor quality item that I have no desire to keep but am stuck with. I expected way better quality from William Sonoma and normally love all their products. But this experience honestly turned me off and the manager at the WS store made it worse. She made me feel like if I was lying for having it only 2 weeks and that I just didn't take care of it and basically damaged the product. If it is such a high maintenance product, then why not educate your customers in maintaining it or ask the customer when they are buying it. Anyway, do yourself a favor and don't buy this product. If I could give it 0 stars, I would. Its not even worth 1 star.

    Poor quality - Splinters everywhere!

This is the first review I have ever written on this site. After washing the cutting board splinters appeared all over creating a rough surface. I can't cut anything on the board without getting splinters in my food, it's absolutely unacceptable. I shouldn't have to sand and re-finish my own brand new cutting board. I could see after a few years of use, but not right out of the package. I'm going to return this. I've owned a number of different cutting boards over the years at different price points, and this is by far the worst one. A cheap bamboo cutting board from a big box store is far superior in quality and functionality to this. What a waste of good wood.

Warped and deteriorating after careful use.

This is the second Williams Sonoma cutting board I have purchased and it will be the last. After less than 6 months of careful use (always wash/dry quickly by hand, mineral oil monthly, stored upright, etc) this board is warped and deteriorating.

One of the best looking wood products

Multi use product. Using right now under a toaster/oven/air fryer in order to move it slowly from under the cabinets. Also, intend to use as a cutting board.
