    Summary

This handsome rectangular chopping block relies on traditional butcher-block end-grain construction to withstand heavy daily use. Made from solid maple, the 3"-thick block makes a beautiful, enduring addition to the kitchen.

    • Crafted of sustainably harvested North American hard rock maple.
    • End-grain construction adds strength and resistance and is gentle on knife blades.
    • Crafted by John Boos & Co., the leading manufacturer of butcher blocks and a staple of the commercial cooking industry since 1887.

    Dimensions & More Info

    • 20" x 15" x 3" thick.
    • 21 lb.
    • Made in the USA.

    Use & Care

    Use

    • Board should be seasoned with a food-grade mineral oil before first use.
    • To season the board properly, warm the mineral oil slightly and apply it in the direction of the wood grain using a clean, dry cloth. Allow the oil to soak in and repeat with another application. Allow the board to dry and wipe off any excess oil.
    • Cherrywood block will darken over time to a rich reddish brown.

    Care

    • Hand-wash with hot, soapy water. Dry thoroughly.
    • Do not soak or submerge board in water.
    • Occasionally rub with a food-safe mineral oil to keep wood from drying out.
    • To sanitize, wash the board with a solution of one part vinegar to five parts water.
    • Remove odors by rubbing the board with kosher or table salt and half a lemon. Let sit for 2 to 3 minutes then wipe clean with a damp cloth. Remove excess moisture with a clean paper towel and stand the board on end to air dry.
    • Store in a dry area away from extreme temperatures.

    A professional tool.

Nothing like a professional tool. It would be nice if they made a thinner board with the cross grain pattern like this, but perhaps that would be too subject to cracking? In any case, this one seems like it aught to last a lifetime.

Love This Board - Proper Care is Essential

I’ve used mine daily for months, and it still looks stunning. Some users report issues like cracking or drying, but I believe this stems from inadequate maintenance—regular conditioning with John Boos Mystery Oil and Board Cream (a must with this board!) keeps it in top shape. Highly recommend to dedicated cooks who are willing to invest in its care!

    A dissatisfied customer.

I'm really disappointed with my purchase of the "Boos End-Grain Rectangular Chopping Block, Maple size 20" x 15" x 3". I applied mineral oil once I received the cutting board. I kept applying oil all around the board until I thought it had enough to the touch (as this is an end grain board, they soak up the oil), and than to finish, I used the Boss oil kit that came with the board. I waited until the oil dried before applying a new coat. I than noticed two cracks. I had essentially soaked the board in high quality mineral oil for cutting boards, even purchased the Boos oil and cream, and the cutting board still cracked along two glued seams. The reason I had purchased this board was for the Boos brand name (quality I thought), the color, size and weight of the board. I had expected the board to crack at some point, but not within 1 month and that being along a glue seam. What a BIG let down. And mineral oil isn't cheap and neither was the board, what a waste of time and money. I'd give a lower score review if I could.

    Gaps and Cracks in Wood

Ordered this two times, both times the board came with gaps and cracks in the wood where it should have been glued and sealed properly. We will try another brand.

    Didn’t love

I got one and love the look, size but it split at the edge even with proper care the first month, got a replacement and the same thing happened. Returned unfortunately.

    Great chopping board

I love my new chopping board, it’s a little bigger/deeper than expected but that’s actually a good thing. Its well worth investing in the oil and cream to keep it looking good.
