    Summary

South Carolina-based Smithey Ironware is a tribute to founder Isaac Morton's passion for restoring vintage cast-iron cookware. Inspired by the polished designs of 19th-century American ironware, the company combines timeless craftsmanship with modern technology to produce cookware that is both highly functional and remarkably beautiful. Each piece boasts a smooth cooking surface plus even heat distribution and retention to ensure exceptional performance. The unique copper-colored finish of the pans makes them ideal for kitchen-to-table presentation. This versatile skillet helps you create fried eggs, smashburgers, cornbread and fruit cobbler.

    Use & Care

    Use

    • Ideal for use on all cooktops, including induction and outdoor grills.
    • Oven and broiler safe to 1700°F.
    • Heat cookware slowly. When searing protein, allow cookware approx. 4–5 minutes to reach ideal temperature.
    • With frequent use, cookware will benefit from oil in food.

    Care

    • Hand-wash cookware with warm water and small amount of dish soap.
    • Dry thoroughly and apply thin layer of food-grade vegetable oil.
    • Do not soak or clean cookware in dishwasher.
    • To remove stubborn residue, gently scrape with metal spatula or scrub with nylon pad and small amount of dish soap. Avoid applying too much pressure when scrubbing.
    • With proper care, cookware should not rust. If rust develops, remove by rubbing with scouring pad or paper towel. Rinse with water and dry thoroughly. Apply light layer of oil and heat in 425°F oven for 1 hour.

Great Skillet, Don’t buy from Williams Sonoma!

I give the Smithey skillet 5 stars and Williams Sonoma 0 Stars. For the 2 months it took me to receive my package that was estimated to be a 1 week delivery, their product page showed it in stock with one week shipping. My dad’s Father’s Day gift was very late. Do yourself a favor and search Williams Sonoma shipping issues before you purchase from their online store.

    Doesn't hold seasoning.

Doesn't hold seasoning - extremely disappointing. Read the internet and you will see this is what most people say. I got it for Christmas - giving up end of April. I had it sitting on the stove the whole time and used it every day. I have other real cast iron skillets so I know how they are supposed to work - those are warped so I thought I would get a new one. This isn't the answer - just ordered a Lodge Blacklock. Meanwhile, I am going to try letting this one rust outside a while and see if it doesn't develop an ability to hang onto seasoning. I have tried re-seasoning it according to Smithey's and other's recommendations multiple times. Each time it comes out looking like out of the box, but doesn't develop any more - and if you happen to cook the wrong thing- like bacon - or deglaze with anything - even water - you will be re-seasoning again. Never got it to the point of non-stick like my other cast iron skillets.
