Superior blades, handle and use with extreme care
I must concur with the other opinion about the knife tips. I currently own a fairly comprehensive collection of 33 of these knives and they are taken care of like they are wine glasses. I always use them for their intended purpose, handled with care, and immediately after use, hand washed and put back in one of two knife blocks. I have been collecting Shun knives for about 15 years now and haven't broken a single one. Any high quality, high Rockwell hardness blade has the 'brittle factor' and extreme care must be used to keep these blades sharp and in one piece.

Terrific addition to my kitchen toolbox
An excellent blade. One surprise was the handle is far smaller in diameter than the other Fuji series I have. The two Santoku’s have matching handles while this intermediary length blade handle is narrower. Not any sort of dealbreaker, just, different.

Highly Durable
In response to other reviewers who say the tip breaks: If the tip of this knife breaks on you, you do not know how to handle a Japanese knife. These knives are meant for experienced cooks so that, when utilized as they are intended, they are exceedingly durable. In 5 years of professional use, none of my shun knives have ever broken and they all perform magnificently. They are knives to last a lifetime.

Broken Knife Points
Of the four Shun knives I have purchased, three have broken points. These knives are too thin at the points, so the problem is inherent in the design. I had no problem returning the knives.
